Pastor Jeff Spangler opened the service speaking about Flag Day.
For more information about Flag Day, see here: Flag Day
Andrea Colyer led worship and was the entire worship team. During worship, Cathy Spangler had the following Word from the Lord:
“Come! Come to the fountain of Living Water! Come and freely drink the water that truly satisfies…Why do you spend yourself for that which doesn’t satisfy. Come drink that which becomes a fountain within you so you can water the dried up souls around you…come drink and be refreshed! Come to ‘still waters’ where you can be restored, refilled, and reset…for when you drink of Me, rivers of living water will flow from your inmost being…come!”
NO EARLY CHILDHOOD WORSHIP
Message: Pastor Jeff Spangler
“Do I Have Your Attention Now?”
It’s important to be aware of our situation and pay attention to our surroundings. There were big storms last night, proving that things can change quickly. You think it's one way, and then - it’s not the way you think it is.
Last night we received 4 ½ inches of rain, hail, etc. Many, including Pastor Jeff, experienced flooding and roof damage…if it’s not fixed, the next round of rain will cause even more problems. Things unattended cause problems.
Pastor heard the Lord speak this morning, early, while he was cleaning up the leaks, mopping up the water, trying to figure out what the problem was. We miss what’s right in front of us. There’s a lot of noise out there - the most important thing is not the roof, the most important thing is STILL JESUS.
Heard from the Lord: “Do I have your attention now?”
Why is this happening? “Do I have your attention now?”
What would you say to the Lord if He said this to you?
Everything demands your attention. Everything is urgent. Everything is NOW.
Let’s look at this through the lens of recent messages. The concept of asking a good question is AS A TOOL to study godliness. When He speaks, ask a good question! Not “why me?”…start with “who am I?”
So let’s ask a good question.
If God says “Do I have your attention now?” What’s His tone in that? God speaks words…and we put tones to it, that may or may not be God. Try asking the question emphasizing different words…”DO I have your attention now? Do I HAVE your attention now? Do I have your attention NOW?” Etc.
How many things grab our attention? As He is asking if He has our attention - we give moments of attention away. What does that mean?
Definition of attention: A condition of readiness; selectively narrowing focus
Pay attention - if you are not at attention, you are not ready for what is next. Example: in the military, calling soldiers to ATTENTION, demands a condition of readiness.
As we serve the Lord, we have times of coming into a condition of readiness for what He will do.
It is scientifically proven you can only focus on one thing at a time. If your attention is on me, that doesn’t mean I have your mind. You can selectively choose what is next.
Attention can be selective and attention can be sustained - but it is HARD to sustain your attention in this world. Do you have an eagerness in expectation of what will happen?
PAY ATTENTION. “Do I have your attention now?” Said another way: “HEY. Pay attention!” It’s about ignoring other distractions to come into full focus - be sustained, be selective.
Hebrew - teshument lev - putting or setting the heart on something or someone. It goes deeper than just our mind or our focus - it’s putting our HEART on something. PAY ATTENTION - teshument lev - put or set your heart on something or someone. Deepest care of something. Total focus on something.
When Jesus comes to attention…do WE come to attention?
PAY ATTENTION - what does that mean?
Your attention has value. It COSTS you something. You’re going to have to GIVE something. PAY attention/PAY as a commodity. You can pay with attention, and you can pay the attention. It’s work and action…it’s deliberate.
You have to PAY to bring your focus to something
Be in a place where the WORD of God and the PRESENCE of God gets all your attention.
How do we answer back “Do I have your attention now?” We PAY ATTENTION. Are you ready to pay that debt?
Hebrews 2:1-4 (NIV)
We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
Verse 1: We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
What does that mean?
Hey church - you need to increase your situational awareness. No matter what is happening…there is NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT THAN JESUS CHRIST.
Are you all in for your community? Sometimes our financial, physical, etc. gets more attention than Jesus does. DO NOT be condemned from that! Jesus is always with us - so no matter what, we can pay attention!
Loss of focus can cause others or myself harm. If we can drift away…how much more can non-believers drift away?
Verse 2: For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment
This is referring to Hebrews 1 - “a message spoken”
Hebrews 1:1-4
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
Back in the day, the angels would appear and start out with “fear not!” and they would speak a message. Now, Jesus, the Son of God has spoken and has command authority over ALL of it. The message: JESUS IS IN CONTROL.
Whatever it is you are struggling with, say this: “Jesus is in control.”
We have to practice situational awareness that no matter what, Jesus is in control. Recognize His command control! We want to get in there and fix it ourselves - but since we have this message spoken, JESUS IS IN CONTROL. He has demonstrated this.
PAY ATTENTION - there’s some word to be done. “I will trade you,” says God - “if you pay Me with your attention, what will you get back?” He wants to do things for us, to lead us to new places.
Selective
Sustained
“Give Me your attention - and sustain it. And I will do a thing.”
Do you believe that? No honestly, do you?
God promises He is omnipresent - He is everywhere all the time. So you are never out of the sight of God. And He never blinks.
Have you ever come to church and felt like you got nothing from God? There is a difference between the omnipresence of God and the manifest presence of God.
Manifest presence - He makes Himself KNOWN.
There are times He sees your heart - and He manifests Himself.
Jesus wants to MANIFEST Himself - the message of Verse 2. He wants you to KNOW HIM and that when you CHOOSE TO PAY ATTENTION it welcomes His presence!
He’s with us all the time…but do you want more than that?
How does He do it? Signs, wonders, miracles, things He does to show us that when we come to attention, He releases revelation.
JESUS YOU ARE IN CONTROL. It starts here.
Verse 3: How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
We can’t escape the view of Jesus. Is Jesus’s attention on you sustained? YES - He never blinks. Is it selective? YES - He knows every hair on your head. He has paid you attention - where did He pay that? At the cross. With His life. For you.
So when He says “Do I have your attention now”…can we ask the same question of Him? We can, but it has been answered. Who can ignore such a great salvation?
God has done great things for us…and we are filled with JOY.
This message was announced by the Lord and then confirmed by others. Yeshua means salvation. Who confirmed the great salvation? Literally the disciples …but today…Holy Spirit IN US.
Putting or setting the heart in focus on Jesus. It’s in YOU.
YOU ARE THE MESSAGE OF SALVATION. Who can ignore this message of salvation…YOU ARE THE MESSAGE OF SALVATION.
First, Savior.
Next, Lord.
And in that, WE are the message of salvation.
We need both the omnipresence and manifest presence of Jesus. What am I doing to honor Him the way He honors me? What am I doing to bring Him reverence in every situation?
When does he release the miracles, signs, and wonders? What was the first part of things…pay attention, you are God and I am not…THAT’S when the miracles happen.
He’s doing the signs and wonders all the time…do we have the attention to grab hold of what He’s doing?
He releases these things according to His will…not ours.
Unfortunately, so many times, we give our attention to lesser things, to things that do NOT rank higher than Jesus. In the storms - tell them - the Lord says “Do I have your attention now?”
And when He asks that, it’s time to come to a condition of readiness - and it will cost us something.
When Jesus shows up, do you come to attention? Turn to our counselor, Holy Spirit, and say - when He shows up, do I come to attention?
When the Great Shepherd shows up, and we are gatekeepers, don’t plug the door, be part of what He is calling…because His sheep KNOW HIS VOICE. So PAY ATTENTION.
Who carries the message of a great salvation? WE DO.
What do we do with it? Put or set your heart in focus to give it away.
When He shows up…do you come to attention?
The service ended with an invitation to come before the Lord and ended with a time of personal worship with the Lord with “Pursuit of You” by Jaye Thomas as background.
