Sunday AM Recap

May 24, 2026

The service began outside with the dedication of a memorial to Apostle George Powers.  To watch a recording of the dedication, use this link: Dedication

The link to the indoor portion of the service can be found here: May 24

Pastor Jeff Spangler opened the service with the history of Memorial Day.  You can find out more at this link:  Memorial Day

Andrea Colyer led worship.

Apostle Susan Powers shared the following throughout worship:

So what did you come expecting?  Did you come expecting the manifest presence of the Lord to descend upon us? For His Spirit to come with the Baptism of Fire as in the day of Pentecost?  Millions of people are celebrating Pentecost Sunday today.  Are you expecting Him to come?  Are you wanting Him to come?  Are you hungry?  Are you thirsty?  Ask Him for the baptism of fire that comes when His presence comes!...

…The Spirit of the Living God is not your cheerleader.  The Spirit of the Living God speaks truth into the atmosphere.  Whether you choose to drink is up to you.  For there is no condemnation, but there is certainly an invitation.  Maybe everybody’s waiting for you…maybe you’re the one that God has chosen today to release His fullness here in our midst.  I’m hungry for that.  Are you?...

…I’m hungry…I’m thirsty.  I’m tired of old, dry religion, I need a refreshing of your Spirit.  I am not ashamed to ask you for more…I am excited by the possibility that there’s more!  There’s more than we’ve ever seen!  There’s more than we’ve ever experienced to this point!  “The best is yet to come,” says the Lord!   Awaken!  Awaken!  Awaken!…

…So I want to speak to the tribe.  Don’t go from the place of worship.  But I want to speak truth over you.  Whoever told you you were not good enough?  That your voice wasn't quite what they were looking for?  That you sing off-key?  That you have no sense of rhythm? I say to you this day, I break that assignment of the enemy off of you! You have been given a sound mind!  You have been given the gifts of the Spirit of the Living God! You will rise up and sing! You will rise up and keep time!  You will rise up!  You will not allow your voice to be silenced in the future!  You will see your significant participation as necessary!  Cuz if you don’t do your part, we can’t do our part!  It’s not dependent on the worship team, it’s dependent on the tribe!  Has always been that way.  So there are no superstars in God’s Kingdom but One, and that’s the Lord Jesus Christ.  So all your heroes in worship, all your heroes in sports, there’s nothing wrong with that, but remember there is ONLY ONE who is worthy of your song.  There is only One who is worthy to hear your voice. Because to Him, it’s beautiful!  It’s perfected!  So please, hear the voice of the Apostle of this house now.  He loves you.  He wants to hear from you. He wants you to stop being so prim and proper.  Be a little bit wild.  Or maybe a lot wild.  I don’t think we’ve ever had anyone sat down here…well maybe that one time, that one time…but that’s not gonna be you!  I want you to reach around to where a dog collar usually is, and I want you to take that off, and I want you to cast it as far as the east is from the west, and I want your commitment to learn how to be free!  How to fly on the winds of the Spirit of the Living God, for that was taught in this house!  And we're not  going back, we’re going forward. So it means it should be more, right?  Multiplication on multiplication!  You are the promises we didn’t even know!  Says the Lord!

NO EARLY CHILDHOOD WORSHIP TODAY.

Message: Pastor Jeff Spangler

Message title:  “What is godliness?”

In response to this morning’s worship:  Matthew 10:31-33

31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.32 “Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

This morning the Lord told Pastor to turn on the light during worship because that was for ALL of us, not just the worship team! There’s something that burns in all of us, and we have to acknowledge! He sees you and has everything for you - don’t let someone else steal what God has for you!

Value - it’s not the way you think it is.  Value differently!  We value gold - and that’s asphalt in heaven.  He’d rather have your shout and release than your constrictions!  Change what you value!

Value: perceived worth of something.

Back in November, the Lord told us we were up for a system upgrade.  We saw that this morning in the house!  So, in the system upgrade, we need to ask a good question!

Come expectant to say…”mmm, that’s fresh.”   And to add to that: “mmm…that’s a good question!”   And then as He answers your question…”mmm that’s fresh!”   Aren’t you, in this hour, wanting something fresh and new?

It’s not the way you think it is…”I want you to place value on the things I value”, says the Lord.

The key is: we must be likeminded.  We need to be likeminded that the Word is not about behavior modification - it’s about relationship.

THAT’S the way.

Our lives are but a blip…He is going to teach us for ETERNITY. He’s a big God!!!

You are God…and I am not.

Jesus is seated on His throne  Grace and Mercy are in place and He is seated…but there will come a time when The King goes off to war.  We need to move forward in the relationship with who this King is.  We must be likeminded on what is valuable.

This doesn't mean that we are all the same.  We are uniquely made.  Being likeminded means we have renewed minds in us of who Christ is - and it’s out of our heart. Not a gut feeling - from our heart.

Matthew 24:9-11

9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Who is He talking about?  Followers of Yahweh.  In the end times, there will be things that will make them fall away.

1 Timothy 4:1-5

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

What happened in service (this morning) was born from something inside of us…but if we try to just go repeat it without the Spirit leading that, it would just be gongs and clangs.  Wouldn’t be the same.

Verse 1:

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

Am I one of those who could fall away?  Do I know those who could fall away?

Examples from political races…just because someone says they are a Christian doesn’t make them a good leader…just because someone IS a Christian doesn’t make them a good leader…we are really focused on our leaders “saying the sinner’s prayer” and checking the box…and this is how people are led away…national socialists are alive and well and talking about internment camps…other examples…pay attention!

It’s about what God has called us to - we don’t have to force it or copy anyone, we just need to be likeminded. The Word tells us that this is what will happen in the end times!  How are you praying?  It’s not the way you think it is.

The Word says this will happen...how can that be?  It’s happening right in front of us. Institutions are failing people.  Including the Institution of Church.

Examples of what is happening all around us.  This is a time that institutions are not trusted, including the Church, and that is what was happening in the time of Timothy.

1 Timothy 4:6-10

6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. 10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

In this time of not trusting institutions, they will trust people before institutions.  They care because they care about YOU and know you care about them.  We are really quick in the institution of Church to tell people what to do.  They aren’t looking for that, they are looking for relationship.

“I see you…what can I do to help?” THAT’S what people need.   What grows your faith?  When everything is great, or when everything falls apart, what questions are you asking? “Who am I that you would entrust me with this?”  Sometimes we have to tend things that we would rather not tend. So what do we do?  We ask a good question.

He has just released Shavuot - they didn’t know what had just happened but they knew this was God.  And it cost them everything

Verse 6

If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

We’ve come today because we want something good for today from a good minister.  We each have someone we influence.  If you point out these things - you will be a good minister.  Point out the Word of God.  Point out what is right and what is not.  Stand up for what is Truth.  Be led by Holy Spirit to be a good minister.

Not fair…consistent. Like-minded.  Jesus comes out, no matter what has happened.

Nourished on the truths of the faith - you have been given a treasure!  Don’t assume you’ve arrived, but you have been given a treasure of a different way.  What are you going to do with that treasure?

Verse 7

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

How many godless myths are there in the Church?  How do we train ourselves to be Godly and not walk in those godless myths?

Verses 8-9

8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.

Physical training and Spiritual training. It’s time to distinguish the difference between the two.

Don’t just trust in physical training but have the spiritual training to back it up.  Physical training is important BUT godliness has value for ALL THINGS.

Message title:  “What is godliness?”

Is it righteousness?  Not quite.  Is it holiness?  No.  So what is godliness?

How do we guard against falling away?  Train in godliness.  And then that won’t be an issue.  Pursue godliness - which is greater and for ALL THINGS.

Godliness in this text: chasidus - Jewish belief that is talking about the essence of God within us

You cannot replicate God.  We suck at it.  We try to do it, we try to copy God and make things happen.   Some things belong to God - and you have no business being there. And God gives us other options.

Godliness is the essence of living in reverence to God.

Did you know you have a soul?  It’s an expression that makes you, you.  There is a soul within us that has an expression, and that soul needs to submit itself to God, and then you will have godliness come out of you when things get hard.  That means the soul has committed itself to godliness.

I am not God, but I can express godliness.  Godliness is the inward state of being of God.  Not BEING God - being OF God.

Righteousness refers to the actions and character that are formed from godliness - where does your character come from?   It’s those things you have developed and that you believe in.

There’s an outward expression…but how do you act when no one else knows?  Physical training - there’s a way to behave in public.  Spiritual training - behave like that all the time.

Physical training - the rules, do this, don’t do that, stand here, wear that, etc.

2 Peter 1:3-11

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

YOU can participate in the divine nature from God.  The power of the risen God - you have the ability to participate.  God has put a piece of Him in YOU!  It’s in you!  So stop listening to a liar who tells you that you can’t!

YOU CAN BE GODLY.  You’re not God - but you can be godly!

You are not controlled by your evil desires.

Two reasons:

  1. Jesus shed His blood and conquered sin.  How?  He paid the penalty of sin - death. This Great High Priest paid the penalty of sin.  The penalty of sin has been paid.

  1. His blood also broke the bondage of sin.

It’s hard to be godly if you only believe the  first one.  The first one is mercy.  But He also broke the bondage - the cell doors DO NOT LOCK.

YOU ARE NOT BONDED TO SIN.

Come out of the cell!  The price has been paid, and the chains cannot contain you!  The enemy will wrap cords and chains around you to fool you, but they cannot contain you!!

Verse 5-7

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

Faith begats goodness.  In goodness, we have knowledge (understanding).  And so on.

Our coffee cups…what if you turn up more than one cup?  Stop stopping at the first level and thinking you have it all!!  Make every effort to look for ALL of it!   Beyond godliness..there’s more and more, growing towards love.

We like to skip from faith to love.  The world says “we want godly love, but we don’t want the things of God.”  But it doesn’t work that way.

You possess these qualities in increasing measure.  It’s not about settling for just one cup - turn ‘em all over!

We give up on the first level…we get emotional and lean into our own interpretations…but we have to add all these up.  Faith is physical training.  Goodness is a physical training.  And it builds up to spiritual training.

If you are not increasing in measure…you are decreasing.  We already have the divine nature of God inside of us - you have to get out of the way of it.  How?  Knowledge, self-control, perseverance…spiritual training
