Cathy Spangler opened with the following:
Recently, I had a pedicure! I hadn’t had one for a long time and my 77 year old feet were not pretty. The technician had her work “cut out” for her!! The first thing she did was soak my feet….and between every thing she did she soaked my feet and ankles! She used some fragrant “salts” and oils in my soak….there was bubbling warm water to soak in!! It softened my skin and toenails for the work ahead.
I am receiving spiritual invitation to come “soak” in the Presence of God the Father….to come be comforted as a Father comforts His child….embraced and held in His lap as I lean against Him in trust and contentment! I hear the call of our future bridegroom to come into the chamber of intimacy…..He sings of His longing for me to come surrender myself to Him in worship….longing for the day He comes to get me and take me to His House forever!! I participated in a spiritual picture of this recently, by surprise as I listened to some songs on my apple music library…..my vision included the Father singing to me as I walked with Him toward the marriage chamber hanging on to His arm like a Father with a bride. He sang of the troubles this trip would take me through but that He would be with me, so I should just hang onto the HOPE and KNOW the LOVE….in trust and faith…He would bring me through it to ENTER the Kingdom!! Then I heard Jesus sing His love for me and the anticipation of “together time”…..with the next song I sang to Him and He sang WITH me as I passed under the “archway of trust” and He hugged me up close and we danced!
I was undone by the whole experience and wanted so much for my friends and family to experience this SOAK. I thought I will invite them into my house and play those songs and they will get the pleasure and softening of the SOAK. But as I’ve talked to others…..and meditated about “Soaking” I realized that not all songs speak to all of us the same way…..we all have songs that stir us spiritually but not all the same way…..and some, not at all!
I also realized that there are many different ways of soaking that work for some and not others. Back when I was teaching school, a couple of those years, right before school started for us…..we gathered at the house of one of our paras who had a very large hot tub! That hot tub was the size of a small pool with a shallow end and a deep end. The deep end had a big jet of water pressure so you could sort of “swim in place” for the exercise! But more than half of the pool had a bench under the surface of the water to sit on with little jets of water to “message” your back and to “bubble” the waters. The water was so warm that after you sat there very long it was hard to stand up and get out, you were so relaxed!! We all laughed and chatted and enjoyed each other as we caught up on everyone’s summer apart from the group!!……that was a soaking that prepared us to work together in the coming days…..maybe comparable to worship intervals with the church????
My husband used to be a bow hunter who was active in “Bowhunters of Kansas” and they had a convention once a year in the early spring. They had it at a Holidome in Hutchinson and then in Salina a number of years. We wives, parked our kids with grandparents and went with them…..meeting at the Holidome pool and hot tub. I especially loved that “hot tub time” with my friends I didn’t often get to see or spend time with…..we soaked and chatted……except when businessmen would come climb in with us!! We knew it was time to get out and go shopping!! But just think what it would be like to soak in HOLY SPIRIT water with Jesus!!…..maybe along side a friend or two….and CERTAINLY with just you and JESUS!!!
So……what ever “SOAKING” you need or want…..Jesus invites you….us…..to come be “SOAKED” with HIM!!!
I strongly urge you all….get apart from other distractions in a quiet undisturbed place for at LEAST 30 minutes and put on some worship music that stirs your soul…..and just SOAK it in…..soak in the peace….the pleasure of the LORD for awhile. Let Him “overshadow” you and unwrap you from all the stuff you have taken on and surrounded yourself with…..just, let go and “SOAK”! Why not? HE longs for it more than you do, so HE will certainly meet your effort with the reward of PRESENCE and FRAGRANCE and place within the womb of your heart the Holy SEED that He wants to bring to birth in you!!
I hear the Lord say:
“See the tiny cloud arising on the horizon? That is My provision, My answer to your intercession and to the cries and sighs of your heart. The Latter Rain is released and on its way…you will soon hear its rumble and the sweeping winds of my Spirit! For I am sending the ‘Refreshing’ of My Presence and and this refreshing will saturate all your being…so don’t be quick to run for cover…stay in the downpour until you are SOAKED! For much is ahead of you and much is required. Be refreshed…even today My child…My chosen one…My beloved! It’s on its way!”
Andrea Colyer led worship.
During worship, Cathy Spangler had a corporate tongue, which was interpreted by Rachael Gilmore:
I can hear the Lord say:
“You called My Name and I answered. I showed you what is good. I showed you great and unsearchable things that you could know. And what do I require of you, My beloved? To do justly. To love mercy. To walk humbly with Me.”
After this, Pastor Jeff had the following vision:
I see a vision of the Bridegroom, standing at the altar, and when the bride appears, the minister says “your bride has come”, and He turns and they lock eyes. For too long we've been a bride that just stayed at the back of the church. “I am His bride, but I'm ok back here.” And in this song and in this worship He says “Oh just come. Just come to Me.” And with each step, I see in this vision, as each step that the bride comes, the crowd comes to attention, there’s eyes that could try to distract her, to say “Hi I’m here, can you see me?”, but the bride does not drop her gaze from the Bridegroom. She continues down the aisle. She comes, she’s been made ready, but she comes as she is. Can you see that vision? Can you see how He longs for you to come closer? “Closer, come closer, come closer, come closer. Don’t stay in the back. Don’t shout your vow from a long way away. Come, and let’s be intimate, let’s hold hands,” He says. “Let’s look into each other’s eyes for no one else matters.” What a vision. From the youngest in this place, in the sound of my voice, to the oldest, see that He wants to take your hand. But you have to make the walk.

“It Is Written” (Part 2)
2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
“As you are.” It is risky to be revealed as you are. God says it’s all revealed - I already know it. He knows who we are. But He doesn’t leave us there. We need to see DIFFERENTLY.
We sometimes need the benefit or the incentive to respond. We work from: “What’s in it for me?” We are to be sanctified or set aside from the world so we can say - What’s in it for GOD?
“What’s in it for You, Lord?”
The world has taught us that if there is no reward, why are you doing it? Jesus comes and tells us He came to fulfill THE FATHER’S desire - to do the Father’s will.
What’s in it for God?
God knows more than you do. He knows what is yet to come. He knows how everything will work out. We have all the data, but we don’t know how it will all work out. He knows things won’t always work out well, but a good Father sometimes has to let us work it out and be strong and courageous and learn. We have to do some things to scare us and make us look foolish so we learn it and grow.
Challenge as a corporate body: when we feel like saying “what’s in it for me?” switch language to “what’s in it for you, God?”
And He will show us the way!
Part 1 of “It is written” was last week. He gave us a whole book about what’s in it for God - He’s not hiding it! Write it on your heart, partake of it!
Justification and sanctification. Justification - it would be weird for a bride to take her vows from the back of the church. Come forward and accept the justification…and then come learn how to be sanctified. Come learn how to be the wife. He’s invited us to come close, to be set aside.
The bridegroom eagerly awaits the bride, with tears in His eyes in eager anticipation…who are we, as the bride, to stay in the back, in our own stuff?
And there is JOY in the refocus, in the coming!
1 Corinthians 4:1-13
This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.
6 Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other. 7 For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?
8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have begun to reign—and that without us! How I wish that you really had begun to reign so that we also might reign with you! 9 For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to human beings. 10 We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored! 11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world—right up to this moment.
Four things - (from last week)
We’ve been entrusted with something.
He has revealed things to us.
There is a requirement.
It must be proven.
Last week we studied Verse 6:
Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.
Don’t follow a person or something trendy…study the WORD and find out what you have been entrusted with!
Don’t focus on the sin and brokenness - we have been justified, we can come out of the jail cell! Come closer…with the understanding that there are STANDARDS. We have to walk in the sanctification! He says come as you are…but He doesn’t leave you there!
He’s not waiting for you to prove you’ve changed, that you’re clean…the Father saw the son from a long way off and ran to him!! We are revealed as we are. And He celebrates when our hearts turn towards Him. That’s sanctification!
1 Corinthians 2:12-16
12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,
“Who has known the mind of the Lord
so as to instruct him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.
The Word of God is fine the way it is…you don't have to dress it up. Human wisdom will not accept truth. We see that all around us.
Election example…which person is taking us closer to where we want to go?
So what’s in it for God?
Make everything about the Word of God - the Kingdom and not the world. The love of man will challenge you - the Spirit will need to reveal things. Don’t make it about the person, it’s about God. It’s about what is written.
Our way sucks. No matter our excuses, our way sucks. God wants to lift you out of that! And He may use the very thing that got you in it to get you out!
Verse 12:
What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
“That” - what is it in our four things? What have you been entrusted with? You have received something…we have received something…from who?
We have emotional reactions. We’ve been entrusted with something…from who? We have an enemy that tries to entrust us with some things too…”did God really say?” He wants to entrust us with a twist. He wants to twist our emotional reactions. He will even use the Word to twist what you’ve been entrusted with.
It’s a Kingdom principle - what we knock on will be open to us. Whether it’s good for us or not. We call Him Lord…but we shout it from the back of the church. So we knock and we knock, and He tells us no…what have we been entrusted with?
Stop and ask the question - who is entrusting me with this? For what purpose?
You’ve been given a season and a time that something has been entrusted to you. What have we received? And from whom? For what purpose?
Verse 12:
What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
So that we may understand…when do we come into understanding? First we have to ask a good question! If you don’t, how can the mystery be revealed?
Last week Pastor had a drawing of the cross bridging the gap between us and God…and the Father showed him it wasn’t quite right…there’s a break, not everyone can just wander on. There’s a gap that requires a step of faith. So we can focus on the gap…or focus on HIM. It takes a step of faith. (Indiana Jones scene: Leap of Faith)
It’s not just an easy thing, He wants us to ask good questions. We have to understand what God has done for us…NOT WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR GOD. We don’t get sanctified for what we do for God!
This is freeing! We have all things because GOD has given it to me!! Everything we received comes from HIM! It’s not us - it’s HIM!! We have received all of it FROM GOD!
BE SET FREE TODAY from thinking it’s about YOU and what YOU can do for God! You are not sanctified by all the cool stuff you do for God…that is something received from the enemy!
What is we focused on what there is to gain instead of what there is to lose? If we let go of being afraid of what we might lose, we can gain it ALL!
Verse 13:
This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.
Is it reality or our perception of reality? We all have three images of ourselves that we spend time on: the perceived, the projected, and the actual. We have how others perceive us, and we have what we try to project. And then we have reality. And who we really are is fully visible to God. (This illustration can be found in John Bevere’s The Awe of God.)
Your actual image is what God made, and He does not make mistakes. He knows what you actually are. He knows everything about you and He has not left you alone. He sees you how you actually are. And at some point, you will be revealed as you actually are - before everyone. And at that point, your perceived and projected images don’t matter.
There’s a worldly perception of what you need…suspend that and let God reveal the mysteries! He wants you to come up face to face! Come close so He can whisper to you…so He will “explain spiritual realities”!
It. Is. Written. That is what is the actual truth. That’s the actual spiritual reality.
So what is required? Coming into understanding, which is also called - maturity. Don’t be ignorant. Come into understanding. It’s a requirement!
We speak words taught by the Spirit…this is ACTUAL REALITY.
Verse 14:
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
We have to meet people where they are in order to understand the Kingdom principle. And this is where we are proved faithful, because He is God and I am not.
We choose in those moments to think about them and not about me…what’s in it for God?
Perceived and projected will fall. The only thing that stands is the actual. David: “search me o God!” He wanted the actual reality!
Example to study: Abraham and Lot, Genesis chapter 19.
GO STUDY IT. Both are righteous men of God. (2 Peter says this of Lot, Genesis says this of Abraham.)
Abraham’s sign of obedience: when he received the direction from the Lord about sacrificing his son, he departed early the next morning. He sets off for obedience first thing. No waiting. He made a choice - what’s in it for God.
Lot is also described as a righteous man. He chooses land on which to live. Angels of the Lord show up, and Abraham argues on behalf of the righteous in the land - in other words, for Lot. Lot was in the plains around Sodom. Except he wasn’t anymore…now he was IN Sodom. A righteous man becoming like worldly things. How many of us are in Sodom? Not that we sinned…but that we are in some things that God doesn’t like?
Abraham had a conversation with God. God was sharing the secrets about what He was about to do. Abraham had the precious conversation.
God does NOT show up and have this conversation with Lot…the other righteous man.
Both Abraham and Lot are righteous men. Both are justified. But Abraham was in a place where God could speak to him because of his obedience and putting God first. Lot had NO IDEA what was about to go down.
Are you so stuck in your idea of “what’s in it for me?” that you have no idea what is about to happen? Lot has no time to gather, visit with God, nothing, he just grabs his family, and he has no time to teach his family what to do…and in the end, he lost his wife because she was disobedient and looked back and what she lost instead of keeping eyes forward. The word of the Lord said to look forward and move - LOOK FORWARD.
He has the resources for you! He knows what to do! LOOK FORWARD!
Sodom was different from Lot. Lot was different from Abraham. We often think it’s either Abraham or Sodom…but are you Lot?
What have I been entrusted with?
From whom have I been entrusted with it?
What is required of me?
How can I prove out that I am faithful?
God wants to do a thing in the Gardens…let us be those who are purposed to sit and talk with God. Let’s put Him first, like Abraham. Today…what do you want, oh God?
Take one step today.
