Apostle Susan Powers opened the service with a Mindful Moment:

This morning when Apostle woke up, she could still smell the fires from Friday night’s celebration of the Feast Tabernacles in her hair.  She had a conversation with Rachael asking - “is this the fragrance God loves on us?”  This led around to a conversation Apostle had with the Lord a while back about how we are different from other churches.  God has identified us differently than the other tribes in this town.  No competition, no comparison, just different.   In this conversation, Apostle asked the Lord, “How are we different, Lord?  How are we identified by You?”   The first thing He said was: “I identify My people by their smell.  I identify My children by the essence of My Son on them.  The fragrance of Christ is evident.”  He reminded Apostle of the story of Esau and Jacob, when Jacob used scent to trick his father out of his brother’s inheritance.

The Lord went on to say: “The essence of My Son, the fragrance of Christ is evident, as is the stench of death.” He also said: “I identify you by the color you are as viewed through the blood of My Son.”  Remember - Apostle had a vision one time that, as He looks on us, He looks through the screen of His Son’s blood.  We are viewed by the blood of Christ, and we are all white.  Why?  Though your sins are red as scarlet, He has washed us white as snow.  It’s not skin color - it’s heart color.  He went on to say: “I also identify you by your hearing.  You know My voice.  And you may choose wrongly, but I always give the right instruction.  You must listen with your spirit ears and with your heart because others refuse and have deaf ears, refusing to hear what the Spirit is saying.”

So in this Feast of Tabernacles, be reminded that the residual smell of the campfire is a pleasing smell to the Lord because it’s a sign of our obedience.  It’s a sign that we listen and follow the instructions. It’s a sign that we trust that the Lord would not call us to do something and then not help us to do those things.

We are carrying His scent, the scent of Christ, and we are recognized because of that.

Rachael Gilmore led worship.

During worship, Apostle Susan Powers had the following Word from the Lord:

I hear the Lord say, “I did not come to bring peace as you suppose.  Peace as you would have it, where there is no conflict.  Beloved, there will always be conflict while you’re in this world but not of this world.  The peace I bring is the power of My Presence in the midst of the chaos.  You are My weapons of choice!  You are my weapons of choice!  When you lift your voices, you are My weapon of choice to overcome the world!”

Later in the week, Kandy Spangler shared she had the following experience during worship:

During worship I saw in the spirit a huge outburst of water blasting from the whole wall the fountain is on behind the worship team. BLASTING water from the altar into the sanctuary and then flooding out the front door. Some of us were dancing and worshiping and others were on their knees with their hands lifted to catch all of the Holy Spirit flood.

There wasn’t anyone who wasn’t getting soaked.

This blast of water could have scared some people, floods are scary! His peace is with us because we are confident in His strength. We are strong in the outpouring of His presence. While you stay in His flood let Him drench you in His security and safety.

Big Idea: When I have big feelings, I can obey God.

Story: Jonah

Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16

Message: Tami Herdandez

“Stability”

Hebrews 12:26-27

26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain.

He’s going to shake the things that CAN be shaken so the things that CAN’T be shaken will remain.  Anyone feeling things being shaken?  Chaos being unleashed?

In talking a friend who was sharing about the chaos of her life, Tami said “stop talking for a sec… what I am hearing you say the only stable thing is instability.”

Sometimes the only stable thing in our lives is that everything is unstable.  How do we handle that?

Instability = chaos.  When you are unstable and walking, that is chaos.  You’re constantly falling down. Chaos in the Bible often rises from consequences of sinful behavior, neglect of divine directives, or as a part of natural phenomenon.

Sometimes it’s not YOUR sinful behavior, but people you are connected to are living that way and it unleashes chaos in YOUR life.   Sometimes you don’t do what God says, and when you step out of His will, chaos happens…and sometimes it’s just that we live in a fallen world.

A lot, if not all, of what we deal with boils down to a lack of identity.  We don't really know who  we are, so we don’t know what we are supposed to do.  And chaos ensues.

We have Jesus…which means we are a son or a daughter of the most high king!  That means we are ROYALTY! Therefore there are rights and privileges that we walk in, but also responsibilities and duties.

What are the duties of royalty?

First duty: produce an heir.  Number one priority.  How do we do that in THIS kind of royalty?  DISCIPLESHIP.

That’s how we produce heirs - MULTIPLE heirs!  That’s what Jesus did!  He showed them by example!

Second duty: serve, uphold, and support the Crown in all things and in all ways.

We get a look at the royalty in Britain…it’s in the news a lot…but sometimes they don’t always act the way they are supposed to -  live by the Crown’s rules and commandments.  Example of the show “The Crown” - there are rules and things in place to make the Crown look good.

So these two duties: produce and heir, support the Crown

What it comes down to: are you part of this family or not?  Some of the royal family members have abdicated their roles and walked away - and people do that in the Kingdom of God as well.  All the time.  And it’s devastating to watch people walk away from their identity in the Highest kingdom.

Line from a TV show: “Abandonment was the defining moment of your life.  You have let that define you.”

There was a time once in the Warring Doves’ old building during intense worship when Tami saw a vision.  She saw herself wrapped up in stuff, like bandages.  She cried out “God what is going on?” There was wind swirling and it was very loud, and God said: “That is all the wounding and grief from your past, wound all around you.”  Tami cried out again, “God, get rid of that, I don’t want that!”  God replied: “I can do that, but it’s going to hurt,”  And she looked, and all of those bandages all around her had been there so long that the skin had begun to grow around them. She responded: “God that’s gross!”  God said, “I can take it, but it's going to hurt.”  She screamed, “Just do it!”  As He unraveled it, He said: “Your past has marked you, but it cannot identify you anymore.  Your past has marked you, but it no longer defines you. You are free from that.  It has developed who you are, and the scars will be a testimony for you, but it can never define you again.”

What is the defining moment of your life up to this point?  What is holding you back, holding you captive?

Chaos, trauma, grief - those moment tend to define our lives.  But the Bible defines us in 1 Peter 2:9:

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; (KJV)

We are chosen but we don’t feel chosen.

We were CHOSEN, like the branch snatches from the fire in Zechariah 3.  We are called to be kings and priests.  Holy and peculiar - special to God.  And called.

That is our identity.

Psalms 31:15

My times are in your hand;

rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!

**Commit this to memory!

My times are in YOUR hand God - so when we are in times of chaos, we can cry out to God, because the enemy doesn’t get to choose what my life looks like!!!  He doesn’t get to choose how I think, how I feel, or what happens to me!  MY times are in YOUR hands, God!

Isaiah 33:6  (ESV; NIV)

and he will be the stability of your times,

    abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;

the fear of the Lord is Zion's[a] treasure. (ESV)

He will be the sure foundation for your times,

    a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;

the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.[a] (NIV)

**Commit this to memory as well!!

Even if you are shaking…He is the stability of your times.  Like a gimbal for a camera that makes the picture look completely still.   You might be shaking - but He has you, and He is the stability of your times.  He won’t let you completely fall apart.  He’s got you!!!

This is what Tami intended to talk to us about this morning. BUT God wants to take it further…

If you don’t know who you are, you don’t know what you are supposed to do, who you are, who you are supposed to be. Like in The Lion King: “Simba, you have forgotten who you are, so you’ve forgotten me.” . He had forgotten the face of his father.

Have you forgotten who you are?

Part of the reason is that we are so busy looking at God’s hands.  “God, what can you do for me?  Gimme this!  Gimme that!”   Why don’t we look at his face?  Or His heart?  God, what is on your heart today?  What do YOU want to do today God?  Sometimes we are so busy looking at His hands, we forget to look at His face or His heart.

John 21:1-14

21 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.[a] It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.

5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”

“No,” they answered.

6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] 9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.

10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

This is after the resurrections, the boys are hanging out, not sure what to do next.  Peter finally says - “that’s it, I’m going fishing.”

There’s a problem with that - Jesus called Peter to no longer be a fisherman but a fisher of MEN.

Then, we are told there are exactly 153 fish. Why is that important? This number means “I am God.”

Peter doesn’t know what to do with himself.  It’s what Tami calls “Ricky Bobby hands” - a Will Ferrell character from a movie when he’s being interviewed and doesn’t know what to do with his hands during the interview.

Peter says, “Well, I know what I used to do, so let’s do that.”  He went back to an old identity.  But Jesus came and changed His life and gave him his true identity.

So when they went fishing, it doesn’t work.  Here’s the other problem: Peter spent around three and a half years with the Lord.  He KNEW who he was supposed to be - but his grief and confusion over what had happened caused him to revert to an old identity and to disobedience.  And now he has led the people in his sphere of influence to disobedience.

What are you doing that is leading OTHERS into disobedience, not just you?  When you don’t obey God, people follow after you.   People are watching, and you don't even know you are teaching others to walk in disobedience.

Jesus came and 153 fish appeared: “I am God.”

Jesus has some fish and bread already…and this is the third time He revealed Himself to them.  3 days, 3rd time.

Reading n, John 21:15-19

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”

22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

There’s another group of three here - and in another version, it refers to him as “Simon, son of Jonah.” Jonah - 3 days in the belly of the whale.

The Lord doesn’t refer to him as Peter, he refers to him as Simon here. Peter was his true identity - but he had stepped back into his old identity as Simon, the fisherman.

Then, Jesus spoke to him three times - the number of times Peter had denied Him - in order to restore Peter to his new identity.

What is your true identity?

We’ve been called many things.  Tami shared she had a bully growing up - her brother, who was physically and verbally abusive.  People are cruel sometimes, and some of us have been told a lot of cruel things about ourselves.  But we have a Heavenly Father who created you ON PURPOSE.  No one was created by accident.  You were created by God for a purpose, on purpose, chosen and called to be HIS.

Some of us have walked in these identities.

Some of us have diagnoses that have become our identities…or is it a physical manifestation of a spiritual issue?  Talk to Him!  Ask Him!

THAT IS NOT YOUR IDENTITY!  THIS DOES NOT DEFINE YOU!  The scars of your past do not define you, but they help you tell your story.

Maui example, from Moana - tattoos that tell his story.  They mark where he comes from, but they cannot define him.  He gets to choose. And so do we.

Your past has marked you, but it can no longer define you.

That’s not your identity.

That’s not who you are.

That might be a season, but it doesn't define you.  It sucks sometimes, but it’s not the definition of who you are.

You are a CHOSEN GENERATION.

A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD.

A HOLY NATION

A PECULIAR PEOPLE…who have shone forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness and into the marvelous light.

And we need to start living that way.

At this point, Tami had Angelica Oakley come play a song while the congregation was given a chance to respond.

All of us take a moment and ask what are those things that don’t define you.  Let’s DEAL with these things.  How do I start being Peter, not Simon?  How do I walk in my true identity?

Tami ended with this Word from the Lord:

I feel like I hear the Lord say:  There are some in here, you identify yourself sometimes even by the service you do for the Lord. Instead of being his child you identify only as his servant.  And yeah, we’re supposed to serve.  But He doesn’t call you Servant.  He calls you Child.  He calls you Friend.  So even sometimes when you define yourself by the things you think are so holy - and they can be - that’s still not your identity.  And I think there are some people in this room that need to deal with that in their hearts.

Tami closed in prayer.
